3…2…1… Bed Time

In the 1960’s San Francisco was all about free-love, dope, folk and poke (each other), but in Texas, it was all about stoppin’ the Red!  The U.S. military went on a building spree, but they weren’t building infrastructure or highways, instead, they were building nuclear missile silos.  The Cold War ended, but these deep cylinders remained and in 1997 Bruce Townsley found a bomb-ass remodeling project prospect (sorry, we couldn’t resist).

follow-us-on-facebook-copyfollow-us-on-twitter
We share all sorts of different schtuff in all sorts of different places, but we hardly hear from ya’ll on this here bloggy blog.  We’ve asked you to speak up, but it seems we’re just blogging to hear ourselves tap on the keys.  SF Schtuff is always looking for more content, pictures, events, irreverent commentary, fans, tweeterers (?) and what have you not, but since our group of original gangsta SF Schtuff bloggers has essentially dwindled down to me, myself and eye, it became apparent that I, we, need help.  Our Facebook fan and Twitter pages have been a good start.  The wall on our Facebook page is open to whomever wants to post their swag so go ahead, tag our wall!

You may have noticed that we syndicate our favorite tweets on the right side of SF Schtuff, so follow us and maybe we’ll follow ya back ;)   We don’t make money on this blog (yet), but we pump out the dribble, day after day, year after year, for you, our six beloved readers.  Help a guy and his silly blog out and share your schtuff by commenting, emailing, Facebooking and Tweeting.

Love and kisses,

3041 Laguna Street. Was It All Cash?

by Coach A:

While I’m certain there’s a story behind this sale, I’m for taking information at face value. With that in mind:

Schtuff:3041 laguna

  • Address :3041 Laguna St
  • Beds:  5
  • Baths: 4.5
  • Square Feet: 3520
  • ‘Hood: Cow Hollow
  • List Price: $3,750,000
  • Sales Price: $1,000 (according to the MLS)

Schtats:

  • At 3520 sq ft, this baby sold for 28 cents a square foot.
  • This sales price represents .03% of the list price.
  • Property taxes are initially $11.40 a year.
  • Each agent makes $25.00 before company split.

Questions:

  • Think the buyer paid on his credit or debit card?
  • With 20% down, do you think the buyer financed the other $800 with a fixed 30 year loan making $2.20 principal payments each month?

Tough economy.

West is the Best, The East Has Traffic

bridgedoom

I’m fascinated by bridges.  The mammoth size of a human engineering masterpiece and the beauty that comes from concrete, steel and cable is something I ponder each time I get under or on a bridge.  Many moons ago, I worked in the East Bay and had to cross the bridge with all the other sucker commuters each morning and evening.  Crossing that bridge every day allowed me the opportunity to watch the beginning phases of the retrofit project first hand (the first thing I remember happening was the placement of buoy’s along the Eastern approach).  The Western span underwent a full retrofit while motor use continued (picture above) and is finally near completion.  Some of the traffic will ease as commuters enter our beautiful city, but rest assured you frequent bridge travelers, you still have YEARS of traffic ahead.  Up next, the Eastern span replacement.bay-bridge-span

Project Schtuff:

  • Monday: Harrison Street off-ramp on Interstate 80 west reopens.
  • Late spring/early summer: Shipments of steel bridge deck and tower segments begin to arrive from Shanghai.
  • Fall: Three-day bridge closure to allow traffic to shift to Yerba Buena Island bypass.
  • Late 2012: Westbound lanes open to traffic on new roadway.
  • Late 2013: Eastbound lanes open to traffic on new roadway.

Fun With Math

I don’t have a problem admitting when I make a mistake and it seems as though I may have made one in regards to my math in a previous post.  To confirm however, I thought I’d take the question to the readers.  Poll Time!

From the Source; McGuire and UBP Merge

About a month ago we broke the news started a rumor ;) that McGuire Real Estate had purchased Urban Bay Properties.  To confirm such statements, comes Charles Moore, the CEO of McGuire Real Estate:

Garret[t],
I wanted to congratulate you on your coverage of the rumor that McGuire had purchased Urban Bay Properties . You broke the story first..right here.

And what’s more, it’s true. I wanted to personally give you the official word that McGuire and Urban Bay are merging. The companies have been in discussion for well over a year, and both felt there were strong benefits to joining forces: McGuire has strong traditions and is well-established in north of Market neighborhoods, while the Urban Bay brings more of a “hip” brand to the South of Market neighborhoods. What’s more, McGuire has offices in Burlingame and Mill Valley, and Urban Bay has a presence in Oakland’s Jack London Square.

No changes to either brand will be made immediately, but transition teams are in place and a merger strategy will be developed in the near future.

Thank you to all our readers that send tips our way, they are much appreciated!

Think Your Vote’s a Secret? Maybe Not.

database-donate
annamariehibble
A week or so ago, I posted on theFrontSteps about a Chronicle technology that allowed you to enter a city, a zip, or a name to find out who had contributed to either YES or NO on Prop 8. I didn’t think such information ought to be public: corporate donation is one thing; individual donations quite another, because the potential consequences seem more dangerous when shouldered by one person.
Well, it gets worse. Now you can use the same technology to find out who donated to either McCain or Obama.  Yep, even if someone sent as little as $10 to McCain/Palin (which, by the way, will barely pay for a pair of stockings for the fashionable Alaskan Governor), his name is there for all to read. If I were a scary, rabid type, I could then take that name and search out his address or phone number and begin harassing him. Luckily I’m not the scary, rabid type; but plenty of other people are.
Again, I wonder if this is isn’t like making ballots public after they’ve been filled out. Your vote on the presidency, and on Prop 8, could be used by myriad individuals and agencies to invade your privacy. Perhaps next time we donate to campaigns, we ought to use the names of Superman or Wonder Woman– if we donate at all.
