Can’t Give These Things Away

The poor San Francisco Giants can’t get fans to take FREE TICKETS. Along Cortland Ave. in Bernal Heights posted on a storefront were two SF Giant Tickets with a sign that read “tonights game FREE.” The tickets sat there for hours. The Giants, with the second worst record in the NL West (.420) were playing the Washington Nationals (tied for the worst record in the league; .370), but c’mon, any night is a good night for a ball game, right?

$9,500,000 in Bernal Heights

We are assuming it’s a typo, but still something we wanted to point out. 455 Prentiss Street in Bernal Heights just hit the market today for $9,500,000. It sits on two lots, has 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and is 3500 square feet. There are no pictures in the MLS, the listing agent is offering buying agents a “reduced” commission and the phone number of the listing agent doesn’t work. Upon further investigation, the real estate company that is selling the home has an office right next door to the house for sale in a completely residential neighborhood. What’s the deal dabber? Anybody wanna take a stab at it? Is this for real?

[update: the price was in fact a typo and the property is now listed for $895,000]

Tree Schitters

By Coach A:

I hope not to offend anyone, but truth be told, I’m from Jersey and I can’t take it anymore!

GET OUT OF THE TREES! I’m sure we are all aware of the 550+ day tree sitting taking place on the campus of UC Berkeley. Yesterday, after months of battling and literally thousands of wasted dollars, the court ruled in favor of —- who? Both sides claim victory which really means no one wins.

The attorney for the “Tree Sitters” is a man named Stephan Volker – Tree Huggin Steve claims yesterday was a great day for the environment. Really Stephan – a group of people living in the trees, dumping human excrament on people — sounds like a great day for the environment. The attorney for the University claims victory as well. Really – cuz last I checked, you’re losing thousands of dollars every day in construction delays and you hired some tree trimmers who are having human feces tossed at them.

Ya think maybe you could reach a compromise — i don’t know – maybe the University of California donates a large portion of money to the California Oak Foundation and goes and plants a TON of trees somewhere else and the freaks sitting in the trees take a shower, find a job, start paying taxes and get a clue. Just my two cents – I’m not saying harm the tree sitter- but I think Peter Gabriel said it best -”Souma yergon, sou nou yergon, we are shakin the tree.”

Cell Phone Law; Schtuffer sells handsfree for $.08

From a reader:

According to the new law that goes into effect July 1, 2008 you will no longer be able to use a cell phone while driving unless you have a ‘hands free’ adapter.

Circuit City wants $50 for a headset with a microphone. Since I have a friend in the cell phone business, I talked with him and was able to come up with a much more cost effective alternative from Office Depot.

These kits are compatible with any mobile phone and one size fits all. I paid him $0.08 each because he bought in quantity.

It was tested with a Motorola, Sprint, Verizon, at&t and Nokia unit and they worked perfectly.

Don’t Cross the Line

We’re not quite sure what to make of this house on the 200 block of Bocana in quirky Bernal Heights. We walked by today and heard loud Ranchera music reverberating out the windows. We’ve been curious about this house since we originally read the note in the window which explains that the property is a soverign nation and is not subject to any United States laws. Most concerning to us was the statement regarding trespassing which is defined by crossing the front gate (national border), and by doing such, one is constituting an act of war and may be shot upon entering.

Anybody have information on federal land patents or this home in particular?

On The Corner

Privacy concerns are nothing new when it comes to Google Street View or MapJack, but it becomes a reality when you actually find yourself in one of the images. These two ladies (above) were having a chat on a corner in Emeryville. They look harmless, but what is it exactly that they (or you) do when they get caught on film doing something naughty?
