We Need Help… fo real.

follow-us-on-facebook-copyfollow-us-on-twitter
We share all sorts of different schtuff in all sorts of different places, but we hardly hear from ya’ll on this here bloggy blog.  We’ve asked you to speak up, but it seems we’re just blogging to hear ourselves tap on the keys.  SF Schtuff is always looking for more content, pictures, events, irreverent commentary, fans, tweeterers (?) and what have you not, but since our group of original gangsta SF Schtuff bloggers has essentially dwindled down to me, myself and eye, it became apparent that I, we, need help.  Our Facebook fan and Twitter pages have been a good start.  The wall on our Facebook page is open to whomever wants to post their swag so go ahead, tag our wall!

You may have noticed that we syndicate our favorite tweets on the right side of SF Schtuff, so follow us and maybe we’ll follow ya back ;)   We don’t make money on this blog (yet), but we pump out the dribble, day after day, year after year, for you, our six beloved readers.  Help a guy and his silly blog out and share your schtuff by commenting, emailing, Facebooking and Tweeting.

Love and kisses,

Garrett

Compost or Pay

New Recycling Law Takes Effect October 21

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors approved and Mayor Gavin Newsom signed into law, legislation that requires all persons and businesses located in San Francisco to separate recyclables, compostables and landfill trash and participate in recycling and composting programs. The new law takes effect on October 21.

The new law contains the following mandate:

Compost Bin

“All persons in San Francisco shall source separate their refuse into recyclables, compostables and trash, and place each type of refuse in a separate container designated for disposal of that type of refuse. No person may mix recyclables, compostables or trash, or deposit refuse in a collection container designated for another type of refuse, except as otherwise provided….”

Owners or managers of multi-family or commercial properties will be required to provide information and/or training for new tenants, employees and contractors, including janitors, on how to source separate recyclables, compostables and trash and will be required to re-educate tenants, employees and contractors at least once a year.

The fine for any violation at a dwelling or commercial property that generates less than one cubic yard of refuse per week may not initially exceed $100.

If the Director of Public Health causes a dwelling or commercial property to be inspected to determine whether the owner has complied with the ordinance, the owner of the dwelling or commercial property will be required to pay an inspection fee equal to $167 per hour of staff time spent during the inspection.

Both Sunset Scavenger and Golden Gate Disposal and Recycling will deliver a larger recycling cart, a composting cart or a kitchen pail at no additional cost.

Building Full o’ Bank Owned

Picture 2

Poor 767 Bryant Street.  The units in this building have had such a tough time selling for one reason or another (timing, location, quality, marketing) and it seems they’ve tried every sales trick in the book–offering cars, converting to apartments, reducing prices, switching brokers–to find buyers.  To the few poor folks that bought these units at full price (uummm, how do the agents that placed buyers in units for over $1m in this building sleep at night?), good luck trying to sell your units any time soon for anything near what you paid for them because now, lucky buyers have five bank-owned lofts to chose from.  Happy shopping.

Twitter Makes Real Estate Easier

Picture 1A reader pointed us to Tracey Taylor’s post from “On The Block”  that talked about a new Twitter bot from RealEstate.com that just launched, called Housewatch.  This bot “leverages Twitter to instantly deliver statistics and information to home buyers, sellers and agents”.   There is data on median home values, neighborhood crime stats, local weather, demographics and mortgage calculations.
