Gavin Has Friends
We know you’re all addicted to Facebook and some of you are obsessed with growing your “friend” circle. According to SF Gate, where they compared the amount of friends politicians have, our very own Mayor Newsom seems to be a pretty popular cat.
Number of friends | Politician |
3,399 | Gordon Brown |
25,000 | Gavin Newsom |
29,500 | Vladimir Putin |
491,000 | Sarah Palin |
5,200,000 | Barack Obama |

West is the Best, The East Has Traffic
I’m fascinated by bridges. The mammoth size of a human engineering masterpiece and the beauty that comes from concrete, steel and cable is something I ponder each time I get under or on a bridge. Many moons ago, I worked in the East Bay and had to cross the bridge with all the other sucker commuters each morning and evening. Crossing that bridge every day allowed me the opportunity to watch the beginning phases of the retrofit project first hand (the first thing I remember happening was the placement of buoy’s along the Eastern approach). The Western span underwent a full retrofit while motor use continued (picture above) and is finally near completion. Some of the traffic will ease as commuters enter our beautiful city, but rest assured you frequent bridge travelers, you still have YEARS of traffic ahead. Up next, the Eastern span replacement.
Project Schtuff:
- Monday: Harrison Street off-ramp on Interstate 80 west reopens.
- Late spring/early summer: Shipments of steel bridge deck and tower segments begin to arrive from Shanghai.
- Fall: Three-day bridge closure to allow traffic to shift to Yerba Buena Island bypass.
- Late 2012: Westbound lanes open to traffic on new roadway.
- Late 2013: Eastbound lanes open to traffic on new roadway.

Fun With Math
I don’t have a problem admitting when I make a mistake and it seems as though I may have made one in regards to my math in a previous post. To confirm however, I thought I’d take the question to the readers. Poll Time!

Hot and Cold
September 25, 2009
January 13, 2009
While the Midwest suffers a cold streak and blizzards, San Francisco is experiencing some spring time-like weather.
SF Gate reports:
“In northern Minnesota, it was 35 below zero in Roseau and 36 below in Hallock, with wind chills down to 45 below in Hibbing. Just to the north, Winnipeg, Saskatchewan, also hit minus 36, according to Environment Canada.”
Lots of cold in the country, while we are experiencing upper 60’s to lower 70’s and crystal clear skies! The sun feels good, but we should all be thinking wet dreams thoughts as our state really needs some precipitation. We are already in a deep recession, throwing a drought in the mix will just make things that much more complicated.

From the Source; McGuire and UBP Merge
About a month ago we broke the news started a rumor that McGuire Real Estate had purchased Urban Bay Properties. To confirm such statements, comes Charles Moore, the CEO of McGuire Real Estate:
Garret[t],
I wanted to congratulate you on your coverage of the rumor that McGuire had purchased Urban Bay Properties . You broke the story first..right here. And what’s more, it’s true. I wanted to personally give you the official word that McGuire and Urban Bay are merging. The companies have been in discussion for well over a year, and both felt there were strong benefits to joining forces: McGuire has strong traditions and is well-established in north of Market neighborhoods, while the Urban Bay brings more of a “hip” brand to the South of Market neighborhoods. What’s more, McGuire has offices in Burlingame and Mill Valley, and Urban Bay has a presence in Oakland’s Jack London Square.
No changes to either brand will be made immediately, but transition teams are in place and a merger strategy will be developed in the near future.
Thank you to all our readers that send tips our way, they are much appreciated!

Those Damn Signs
Ah, the real estate A-frame sign. Those silly open house signs that come out in droves on Sunday afternoon are now in jeopordy. Oh no! We all know how much the general public loves real estate agents and the fact that agents feel the need to block sidewalks, medians and roadways to advertise their open houses is just another reason why we’re loved so much. Now, the DPW may start fining agents for these signs that violate certain guidelines. The DPW will soon start fining $300 for each violation under Section 63(a) of the Police Code. That section of the Police Code states that “it is unlawful for any person to place A-frame or advertising signs on the sidewalk so as to obstruct passage [or on median strips].” Be vigilant, report crime.
