Don’t Cross the Line

We’re not quite sure what to make of this house on the 200 block of Bocana in quirky Bernal Heights. We walked by today and heard loud Ranchera music reverberating out the windows. We’ve been curious about this house since we originally read the note in the window which explains that the property is a soverign nation and is not subject to any United States laws. Most concerning to us was the statement regarding trespassing which is defined by crossing the front gate (national border), and by doing such, one is constituting an act of war and may be shot upon entering.

Anybody have information on federal land patents or this home in particular?

5 Alarm Fire

Historic Firehouse #44 has been restored to none of it’s original glory. However, it has been resored into a masterpiece of a slick, modern, non-kid-friendly home with amazing views, high-end finishes and the “cool factor” that goes along with living in a fire house.

Schtuff:

  • October 2005: Active for 71 days with an asking price of $2.695m. Withdrawn.
  • February 2006: Active for 8 days for an asking price of $2.696m; sold for $2.1m
  • May 2008: On the market currently for $6.375m
  • Kitschy elements used in the remodel include fire-hose nozzel fountain, fire-hose used as staging item.
  • Worst part of the remodel: the pole is encased in glass. NOT IN USE. BOOOOO!
  • Best part of the remodel: outdoor decks, walk-in wine closet and kitchen with separate galley sous chef space/kitchen

Going Down?

An article we found from Inman News, via Curbed SF states that real estate agents are going poor–some of them at least.

Schtuff (information based on a survey of 9,997 National Association of Realtor Members):

  • Overall median Realtor income was $42,600 in 2007, down 10.7 percent from $47,700 in 2006
  • The typical Realtor is 52 years old, female, works 40 hours per week and specializes in residential brokerage
  • Realtors who have spent two or less years in the business had a median income of $10,500 in 2007–that’s only $100 above the federal poverty level.
  • Most fascinating tidbit from the survey: 82 percent own cell phones. (who the hell doesn’t have a cell phone these days, especially a real estate agent?)
